To answer this question, let’s begin with the basic differences between a Medium and a Psychic.
A Medium communicates with entities in the spirit world, such as departed loves ones (both human and pets) and spirit guides. They work as a go between, sharing messages from the spirit world with those of us in the physical world.
A Psychic shares information they obtain using their Clair Senses (see below) and may use divination tools (Oracle/Tarot cards, Pendulum, crystals, etc.) during their reading. They may also read our chakras and aura, and may use telepathy.
Both are equally awesome, one is not better than the other. Each of our abilities will develop as they are meant to. For some of us, our psychic abilities will be our strength, allowing us to give an overall reading in love, home, career, and health if we choose to. We may also use those abilities for healing (energy, hands on, Reiki, etc.). For others of us, our mediumship abilities will be our strength, allowing us to communicate with the spirit world. Many of us will combine the use of both, and call ourselves psychic mediums. This is the term I go by.
So when someone says, “I’m a Medium, not a Psychic.” My guess is that they are trying to ensure that the potential client understands that they communicate with the spirit world sharing messages from departed loves ones; not give overall readings, healings, or use divination tools. There is a difference, only the client will know which one they are looking for.
With all that said, I want to say once more that being a medium is not more important, does not hold more prestige, and is not more relevant than being a psychic or healer. In the eyes of the universe, they are all equally as important as the other.
If you are unfamiliar with the Clair Senses, here is the list:
