I was recently asked about my experience in Gettysburg that basically made me run and hide from the mere thought of ever stepping foot in a paranormal investigation. I realized that since that incident took place in 2015, it was not included in my book (2004 – 2014). So I basically teased everyone with it. Sorry!
My adventure started when my wonderful friend Janie, invited me to tag along with a group of her friends to a séance in Gettysburg. The séance was held at the Spooky Spirits Paranormal Events by JB, the lead investigator of the Ghost Aholics Crew. The séance was co-led by Madam Della, a Psychic Witch and Metaphysical Teacher.
Since I didn’t ask any questions, I assumed that it would be a traditional séance, in which we sat around a large round wooden table, held hands, a waited for the spirits to arrive. With some luck, maybe we would also get a little table tipping action as well. So when we arrived at the location, I was a little disappointed. Instead of a creepy old house, it was an established paranormal shop (not to be confused with a metaphysical bookstore) with a back room that was used for séances.
We were greeted by JB, a wonderful guy who collected the fee from each of us, and let us know how the process worked. When it was time, we all entered the room. There were two rows of four or five chairs set up facing the front.
In the front of the room there was a chair set up for Madam Della to our right, and small table with a lamp, writing essentials, candle, and spirit voice box in the middle. The voice box belonged to JB. To our left was a chair set up for JB.
The room was well decorated to fit the scenario, long red curtains, low light, etc. Once we were settled in our seats, Madam Della introduced herself and explained her process. She wrote down each of our first names, and then went into a meditation.
JB took over by preparing the spirit voice box. He explained his history in paranormal investigation (see his website for details), and the use of the spirit voice box. It was not a toy, and should be used with caution. Then he turned it on.
If you have ever watched T.A.P.S or Ghost Adventures with Zak, Aaron, and Nick, you know that spirit voice boxes can be really noisy. The static is loud. This particular one would rotate through what sounded like music channels as well. As we sat there, we began to hear distinct voices popping out. Some made direct statements about those of us in the room. Some began to call us out by name. Then it got real.
I heard my name called by a male voice, “Rena!” I sat still, trying not to over react. Then he did it again, “Rena!” This time JB asked, “Who is Rena?” I lifted my hand slightly so he knew it was me. He replied with a slight nod. Then I heard, “Rena … the book!” I knew that I was writing a book, so did Janie, but no one else did. I thought I was making it up, so I asked JB, “Did they just say the book?” He nodded yes. A little time went by then they (two male voices) started up again. “Rena!” JB encouraged me to acknowledge them and ask if they had a message for me, so I did, but got nothing. A few moments later, one male voice called out, “Rena!” and then a second voice said, “Stop it! You leave her alone!” That was it. I was scared.
I know that it might not sound like much when you are reading this, but when you hear this over a spirit voice box it is a little freaking scary. The bottom line, you don’t know who or what you are talking to. You don’t know if they would or could harm you in any way.
As the voice box session came to an end. Madam Della took over and provided us with individual readings in front of the rest of the group. Mine was fantastic. I would definitely seek her out again if I was in town.
As we closed, JB said a prayer of protection for everyone. This particular prayer ensured (to the best of his ability) that nothing could attach itself to us and/or follow us home. The prayer that he used called upon Archangel Michael for assistance.
So there it is, my first experience with a spirit voice box. I have to admit, as I am writing this I realize that I really would like to try an actual paranormal investigation. But, it has to be from a mediumship standpoint. Maybe I could just wait in the parking lot and see what I get from there!
