As Halloween approaches, I can’t help but feel the supernatural magic in the air. Could it be the never ending stream of Harry Potter playing on cable? Or is it my total preoccupation with talking to those on the other side – ghostly or otherwise? Who knows, but whatever it is, I LOVE IT.
When I was little I used to dress up as a fortune teller on Halloween. The idea of looking into a crystal ball and knowing the future was beyond words, it was an honest to goodness fantasy. There wasn’t a doubt in my mind that “it could happen” or that it was real. What I never could have guessed is that I would be doing something similar decades later, but not as dress-up, as a Psychic Medium. This is especially true because I was afraid of the dark, seeing or talking to ghosts and any kind of bump in the night. It’s funny how some of the things that we were afraid of when we were young, turn out to be things that we actually enjoy as an adult.
According to Google: “On Halloween, when it was believed that ghosts came back to the earthly world, people thought that they would encounter ghosts if they left their homes. To avoid being recognized by these ghosts, people would wear masks when they left their homes after dark so that the ghosts would mistake them for fellow spirits.”
As we know now, spirits are among us all the time, not just on Halloween. But it still gives us a wonderful opportunity to explore our creative side and be whatever we want to be for one day. Do you want to be Superman? Do it! How about a zombie? We can dress up as our favorite entertainer, animated character, actor, actress, an object, an animal, or even a ghost. When we do, we can take on the characteristics, if even for a moment, and see a glimpse into what it is like to be it. Crazy huh?
This year I decided to give my witch and fairy costumes a break and dress up as skeleton. To be more specific, as the bone lady from the show Bones (Season 6, Ep. 4 “The Body & the Bounty”). I’m not sure how it will all come together or if I want to know what it feels like to be a skeleton, but it sounds like supernatural fun, so I’m going for it. Maybe I will have some insights or get some messages while handing out candy. I’ll keep my clair senses on high alert and keep you posted.
Have a fun, exciting, and safe Halloween! Boo!
